In May, Jake was invited to London by Haircuts 4 Homeless to be part of a community event at the West Ham Foundation.
As a lifelong West Ham supporter, the invitation meant a great deal. But by the end of the day, football wasn’t what stood out the most.
The experience became a powerful reminder of what can happen when people come together to support others.
A Day Focused on People
The event was built around supporting vulnerable people and those experiencing homelessness.
Throughout the day, people were welcomed in for hot food, showers, health checks, dental support, fresh clothing, and haircuts.
It wasn’t about football.
It wasn’t about social media.
It wasn’t about appearances.
It was simply people looking after people.
The Moments That Stayed With Me
One of the most powerful moments came from seeing people wearing full West Ham kits, tracksuits, and hats.
Some had no interest in football at all.
They wore them because the club had provided warmth, comfort, and dignity.
It was a reminder that while football means everything to many supporters, for someone facing hardship, a hot meal, a fresh pair of socks, or someone taking the time to listen can mean even more.
Conversations That Matter
The day was filled with meaningful moments.
Jake spent time talking with people, playing Connect 4, carrying out a few trims, and meeting dedicated staff and volunteers who gave their time to support the community.
He also had the chance to meet one of his childhood heroes, Carlton Cole.
But the biggest takeaway wasn’t who was there.
It was seeing the impact that community organisations can have when people genuinely care.
Thank You
A huge thank you to Stewart Roberts and the entire Haircuts 4 Homeless team for the invitation, and to everyone at the West Ham Foundation for the work they do behind the scenes to support their community.
The day was a reminder of why the No Bad Days Project in Upnor exists: to create opportunities for connection, support and meaningful conversations that put people first.
Proud Hammer.
Proud barber.
Proud to be building The No Bad Days Project.
Thanks,
NBD
